4th of July 2010

I don't know if I can put into words what I have been thinking today. About freedom, about how blessed I am to live in this country at this time, about just how blessed I am to be able to worship and love my creator without fear & with total freedom...

Several students were missing from my Bible class this morning - I had one regular and one who I have taught for over six years and now studies with another teacher who was out of town. I feel like they are "my boys" and I had decided to use our holiday in our lesson. We read the children's book "Let's Thank God for Freedom" along with some other scriptures and then discussed just what we were thankful for concerning living in the USA.

The book talks about how we honor people during the year like Veterans, those who died serving our country, and those who make sacrifices for our freedom. In each section it then uses a scripture to talk about 1)how when we speak up for God, He is honored (Psalm 19:14), 2)how it pleases God when we remember Him (I Chronicles 29:11b), and 3) how we celebrate Jesus, who was born to set us free (John 3:16). The final thought is that we can be thankful for our freedom in Jesus every day (John 8:32.)

We are blessed to be free!
